When I had just moved back from Ohio to Nashville, I decided that I wanted to write 100 songs. The plan was 90 days but I think it took me 6 month. This was one of the songs from that time. It’s basically about the blocks that we create for ourselves in our own minds. The sooner we realize that past does not equal future the sooner we can get over those blocks. It’s a natural instinct to use your past experiences as a guide for decisions we make today. It’s the reason we don’t burn ourselves on the stove over and over again. Yet those same instinct can cause us to get stuck because what we believe is keeping us safe is really harming us.

Lyrics to “In Your Mind”

Forever stained in you mind
Is just like the time, just like the time
You try to make it go your way
But worn in memories never fade
They just stay forever stained
In your mind
In your mind
In your mind

You keep searching for some mild amnesia
Thinking that high or low will free ya
Praying to God it don’t kill ya
Oh, will ya ever breath through, cause

Forever stained in you mind
Is just like the time, just like the time
You try to make it go your way
But worn in memories never fade
They just stay forever stained
In your mind
In your mind
In your mind

You keep thinking that time will ease this pain
Praying for blue skies when all you see is rain
It don’t matter cause you left before she could say
So long, so long, so long

Color pictures fade to black and white
Everything’s cool on the outside
Never letting on about the fight
In your mind
In your mind
In your mind

Forever stained in you mind
Is just like the time, just like the time
You try to make it go your way
But worn in memories never fade
They just stay forever stained
In your mind
In your mind
In your mind
